On Saturday, thousands mobilized in Montreal in support of the Palestinian people and to oppose the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which they accuse of backing Israel in its genocide in Gaza.

From November 22 to 25, over 300 representatives from 27 NATO countries are meeting in the Canadian city for the annual session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the U.S.-controlled alliance.
“The protesters intensified their demonstration by setting fire to an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a symbolic act of rejection,” the JP+ portal reported, while major international media outlets remained silent.
“The police used chemical irritants against students participating in the protest, escalating the confrontation as they maneuvered to disperse the crowd,” it added.
While discontent unfolded on the streets of Montreal, NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly adopted a resolution calling for stricter sanctions to prevent the flow of military technology to countries such as Russia and China. It also proposed measures to curb the transfer of military technology to these nations.
Additionally, the parliamentarians urged greater coordination on export controls for “emerging dual-use technologies” and closer collaboration with Indo-Pacific partners “to secure critical supply chains,” according to the Associated Press.
The resolution also advocates for enhanced cooperation in “developing appropriate measures to bolster the Alliance’s economic resilience in the face of strategic competition from countries like Russia and China,” it added.
